It’s over. At least for Germany ;) Last Wednesday, Spain defeated the German “Nationalelf” (national eleven) in the semi final 1:0. The nation was dissapointed of course. I saw a bunch of people crying on the subway on my way back home. But Spain played so well - and I have a feeling they can make it tonight. The finale Spain - Netherlands is going to be very exciting!
I think this Soccer World Cup was amazing and so much fun! The German team, who won against Uruguay yesterday 3:2 and therefore finished third, did a great job and will be rewarded with official honor. Joachim Löw, the trainer, is going to be awarded the Federal Cross of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz). Congrats! :)

I don’t know if it’s smart to wear a wig while Germany’s currently suffering from a heat wave - but I’ve seen fans wearing it and I think it looks hilarious!
The text translates to:
Curl Wig Fan Wig - Black Red Gold
The Curl Wig in the colors of the nation. Powerful and full of energy you stand behind our team. Curls have never before missed their effect!
Are you somebody who likes to support their team by wearing special clothes/wigs/make-up/scarves/…?

I have to admit, I couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday. Of course I support my team and of course I was hoping and actually believing that they could win this game, but kicking Argentina out of the World Cup 2010 LIKE THIS??? Heilige Scheiße! (Holy Shit) Das war fantastisch! (That was fantastic)
4:0. Goal 1, Müller. Goal 2, Klose. Goal 3, Friedrich. Goal 4, Klose again. Argentina must have been devestated!!!
Coming up: Semi final against Spain on Wednesday. The dream will continue ;)

“Schland oh Schland”. Guys, seriously. This song is currently getting so popular (cause of the World Cup). Maybe some of you remember my post about Lena, who won the Eurovision Song Contest a couple of weeks ago with the song “Satellite”. So these guys decided to use the song and write different lyrics for it, that fit the World Cup. And people are singing it on the streets!
Click here to read the German lyrics. And there the translated lyrics.
Click here or on the pic to view the video and listen to the song.
And now sing along ;) One of my next posts will deal with the word “Schland” (which is a common slang abbreviation of Deutschland).

Quarter Final!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great game. 4:1! … although, I think this second goal should have counted for England well… maybe it was only half a goal… so let’s say 4:1,5, which is still pretty amazing. I’m super excited! And so is my country - going crazy right now as if it had already been the finale ;) Germany - you’re gonna make it… right?

A fun soccer World Cup song by Sportfreunde Stiller is this one (click on the pic to listen). It was originally written for the World Cup in 2006, but it’s also sung during this year’s World Cup.
It’s called “54, 74, 90, 2006” (now 2010 ;)). 1954, 1974 and 1990 are the three important years for German soccer because that’s when we won the World Cup! Yay.
Chorus:
54, 74, 90, 2006 / 2010,
ja so stimmen wir alle ein (that’s how we’re all joining in)
mit dem Herz in der Hand (with the heart in our hands)
und der Leidenschaft im Bein (and the passion in our legs)
werden wir Weltmeister sein. (we’ll be world champion)

German soccer cheers

posted 1 year ago

Many of you asked me, what popular German soccer chants or cheers were. Thank you all for being so interested :)

However, I’m not an expert to be honest ;) So if any of you would like to contribute something, please leave a note in the Disqus comment section on germanheit.com :)

“Go Germany!” or “Go Deutschland!” is certainly something you can shout. You don’t necessarily have to translate it.

Or “Los Deutschland!” which would be the best translation for “Go Germany”.

“…. vor, noch ein Tor” would be another one. You just have to put in the name of a player e.g. “Klose”. “Klose vor, noch ein Tor”.

Germany won against Ghana yesterday. It wasn’t a great game in my opinion, but the goal (scored by Mesut Özil) was pretty cool. Click on the pic to watch it! Looking forward to the game Germany vs. England on Sunday!

Germany’s national soccer team (= die Nationalmannschaft) lost today’s game against Serbia 0:1. It was an exciting but weird game with a V-E-R-Y fussy referee, who showed the yellow card all the time and sometimes for no real reason. The popular striker Miroslav Klose eventually got a red card and had to leave the field. Germany’s team fought with only 10 instead of 11 players and had lots of good chances but just couldn’t do it. Congratulations Serbia!
Germany plays next on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed :)

4:0 - that’s the result of the game Germany - Australia which took place yesterday. I felt sorry for the Australian team. But Germany played so well and smart and was rewarded for it.
Goal one: Podolski
Goal two: Klose
Goal three: Müller
Goal four: Cacau
Click on the picture to experience all four goals in a row :)
