If you aren’t a vegetarian, you may already have tried a “Wiener Würstchen” or as it’s often called “Wiener”. The word “Wiener” means “Viennese” and leads to confusion, cause the sausage doesn’t really originate from Vienna. The history of the sausage which has been produced since the Middle Ages is not sure. Some say it was invented in Frankfurt, some say it was invented by a butcher from Frankfurt who immigrated to Vienna.
The sausage is usually made of pork/poultry and has an edible casing. It tasted good when it’s hot and cold - and it’s crispy. Usually it’s served in pairs with a side of potatoe salad or a wheat roll and mustard. But it’s also a popular addition to hearty soups e.g potatoe or lentil soup.
