You have to watch this little short film about Berlin. CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO WATCH IT ON VIMEO.
The miniature effect is really cool. Personally, I’d have chosen a different soundtrack though… ;) something more light and less boisterous… I actually turned off the sound and started listening to something else *LOL*.

Unveiled at Comic Con in San Diego, this fall we’ll be able to experience an awesome new series, produced by Bryan Singer (X-Men), directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) and written/created by John Cabrera (Gilmore Girls) and Cosimo de Tommaso.
Why am I posting this? Well… besides the fact that I know some of the people who worked on it, a popular young German actress is part of its cast - Hannah Herzsprung (4 Minutes, The Reader, The Baader Meinhof Complex)
Click on either the pic or the link above to watch the amazing “H+” trailer. Hannah is the blonde girl with the… heh… German accent! If you don’t know her yet, you’ll love her performance - she’s very talented.
And if this series looks like something that might interest you, share it with others - or you can join the H+ Facebook page for more info.

Have you already gone to the movies to see the last Harry Potter movie? I went this Thursday and yeah, I teared up because I didn’t want it all to come to an end. *sigh*
In case you don’t know the translation of the HP titles - here are the German titles:
Harry Potter und…
… der Stein der Weisen
… die Kammer des Schreckens
… der Gefangene von Askaban
… der Feuerkelch
… der Orden des Phönix
… der Halbblutprinz
… die Heiligtümer des Todes
Are you a Harry Potter lover or hater?

The other day I asked you guys about your favourite German movies. Thank you for recommending so many great movies! :) It was interesting to read titles like “The life of others” (Das Leben der Anderen) or “The Educators” (Die fetten Jahres sind vorbei) several times.
Here are links to previous posts about German movies. CLICK 1 CLICK 2
Btw - my favourite German movies are probably Lola rennt (Run Lola Run), Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei (The Educators) and Krabat.

One of my favourite German movies is “Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei” (English title “The Edukators”) starring Daniel Brühl. The German title literally translates to “The fat years are over”.
It’s about three anti-capitalist activists in Berlin, who enjoy breaking into luxerious mansions at night where they leave messages and re-decorate the place instead of robbing it. But something unexpectedly goes wrong during one of these missions….

Silbermond (silver moon) is another pretty popular German pop/rock band. In the past couple of years, they had two very successful No.1 hits, “Das Beste” (the best) and “Irgendwas bleibt” (something lasts) which are still played on the radio a lot.
Click on the pic to listen to the titlesong “Krieger des Lichts” (warriors of light) of a German comedy movie called “Friendship”.

greetingsfrommymailbox asked: Hallo! I just want to know, do you know where I can watch German movies (or other foreign movies) online? I really want to watch Sonnenallee because I heard it's good. Thank you very much if you can answer this. Danke!
I know that netflix.com has some German movies. If you don’t live in the US I’m sure you’ll find a similar video rental / streaming service in your country. Also amazon sells lots of German DVDs. You can also try and shop at amazon.de :)

“Vincent will Meer” is a new German tragic comedy that I’d like to recommend today. The title is a wordplay. The literal translation is “Vincent wants sea”. But since das Meer = sea and mehr = more is equally pronounced, it could also mean “Vincent wants more”.
The movie is about this guy Vincent who suffers from the Tourette-Syndrome. One day he escapes from the mental institution. His big goal: going to the shores of the Mediterrean Sea. And he’s not alone on this mission: two fellow patients, the anorexic Marie and the neurotic Alexander are coming with him. As you can imagine the trip isn’t “normal” and easy at all ;)

william-elms asked: What are your thoughts on the film Inglorious Basterds? I've been showing clips of it to my students, not only for the fliessendes Deutsch, but also because it gives a pop culture avenue into Nazi discourse. It would be cool if you could post clips of the film with your commentary, as a German (Sie sind Deutsche/r, ne?)
If I can find any good clips that call for a commentary I’ll do it for sure! In general I really loved it a lot. And I’m excited that Christoph Waltz actually won an Oscar for his performance as Colonel Hans Lada. And yes, I’m a German girl ;)
