Porsche - another famous German car manufacturer. Its headquarters are located near Stuttgart (South-West of Germany). Porsche has merged with Volkswagen by the way.
Founded in 1931, Porsche has been making many men’s dreams come true for almost 80 years. The luxerious and fast cars have already won several prizes.
The name is often pronounced incorrectly in English “porsh”, ignoring the “e” at the end. Since German doesn’t have a silent “e” at the end of words, the correct pronunciation is “Porsh-uh” [pɔrʃə]

Ok, here’s one of Volkswagen’s cars that I need to go into more detail with - simply because they’re so cool and retro (and I’m a sucker for retro stuff *gg*).
The VW Bus (der Bus (-se) = bus (-ses)) is the embodiment of THE 60s/70s hippie vehicle. Lovingly painted with peace signs, flowers and decorated with lights and spiritual and esoterical symbols, it was a loyal vehicle.
And those of you who are into ABC’s “Lost” know, there’s cute, light blue VW bus driving around in a couple of seasons ;) CLICK

Volkswagen or “VW” as it’s abbreviated (pronounced fow-veh) is one of many German car brands. Founded in 1937, it has already produced many well-known and popular types of cars e.g. the Golf, the Jetta, the Passat or not to forget - the Beetle (I’ll have to write a seperate post about that little guy ;)).
Volkswagen btw means “the people’s car”. It’s pronounced [ˈfɔlksˌvaːɡən] with a voiceless “v” (I hear English speakers pronounce it voiced like [‘vɔlksˌvaːɡən] which is incorrect).
das Volk (Völker) = people (-s)
der Wagen (Wägen) = in this case: automobile (-s)
Nowadays, Volkswagen ranks as the 3rd largest automobile manufacturer.

German cars
Some people immediately think of cars when they think of Germany. There’s a reason for that of course - Germany is one of the most popular exporter of cars in the world.
Cars are a very important part of Germany’s industry and this industry is pretty profitable. From 2003-2008 Germany was the world’s largest exporter of goods - did you know that??? Having been surpassed by China in 2009, it’s now #2 - which is still pretty decent, right?
Since German cars are driven all over the world, I’ve decided to write posts about the big famous brands.
Do any of you drive a German car or drove one in the past and which one is/was it?
