KRABAT (English title “The Satanic Mill”) is a beautiful movie adaptation of a fairytale written by a famous German children’s book author called Ottfried Preußler. The story, starring Daniel Brühl and David Kross (whom you might know from the movie “The Reader”), takes place in Europe after the Thirty Years War - bad times. Krabat is a boy looking for a place to stay and learn a profession. He ends up at a mysterious place, a mill, which is owned by a black magician. Soon he is introduced to magic. And then, he meets a beautiful girl in the village nearby…

One of my favourite German movies is “Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei” (English title “The Edukators”) starring Daniel Brühl. The German title literally translates to “The fat years are over”.
It’s about three anti-capitalist activists in Berlin, who enjoy breaking into luxerious mansions at night where they leave messages and re-decorate the place instead of robbing it. But something unexpectedly goes wrong during one of these missions….
