Where I lived, in Thuringia, and to an even stronger degree in Saxony,
1. Most vowels tend to sound as if they have an umlaut e.g Wurst s.l Würst.
2. Words that end with -er are weakened e.g Schwester = Schwesda
3. T sounds like D [Mudda = Mutter], K Sounds like G [Drecker = Dregga], P sounds like B [Stopp = Stobb]
Most Ossis will assert that they speak Standard German, but if a speaker of Standard German encounters an 'Ossisch' speaker, these variations are clearly identifiable.
