Questions about Germany’s “dark days”
Dear readers,
there are several questions waiting in my queue regarding Nationalsocialism and the Third Reich. Many of them are broad curiosities like “how do Germans feel?” or “I know somebody who reacted in a strange way when I mentioned something about Hitler - why is that?”.
As much as I would like to answer your questions about this topic - there are some I simply can’t. Not because I don’t want to deal with it or because I’m ashamed of Germany’s history. Just because I don’t think I have the right to speak for an entire nation or individual people whom I don’t even know.
To me the Third Reich is a very sensitive part of German history which should certainly never be forgotten. But it’s also a very dark part and one that some in this country (whether they were actually living back then or were born many years after) may be ashamed of or feel uncomfortable talking (even thinking) about. Of course, I have no problem telling you how I feel about it. And if there are any facts that I can share about that period without generalizing an entire country or people, without speaking for or even offending somebody, I will share them.
Please don’t be mad at me for not answering directly. Give me some time to prepare posts. Thank you! :)
