He thinks it should be "Du bist was du ißt"
And I think it should be "Du bist was du eßen"
Which one of us is correct?
I’m sorry, but your friend is right! ;) “Du bist, was du isst” is correct. You have to conjugate both verbs because it’s a main clause and a subordinate clause (relative clause in this case).
I like this saying actually (literal: you are what you eat). :)
