deannatroi asked: I'm studying the differences between a few dialects for my German class. I was wondering which one you speak? Which dialect is your favorite to listen to? Which dialect would you say is the easiest for non-native speakers to understand?
I usually speak a very clear Hochdeutsch (standard German). But I live in Bavaria, and more specific Franconia and so I add little nuances of Franconian dialect (Fränkisch). But I cannot speak the dialect very well.
This is how the dialect of the area I live in sounds like ;)
In my opinion every strong German dialect is difficult to understand - not only for foreigners but also for native speakers. I don’t really have a favourite dialect. Franconian dialect is the one I’m most used to, so it doesn’t gross me out even if it’s very thick ;). But one of the dialects I don’t like (even if it’s not strong) is Swabian (Schwäbisch). Why? I don’t know, just don’t like the sound at all.
