Anonymous asked: Hi Babsi, I'm trying to go to Germany next year for study abroad and need to choose courses for the program. I need to take an advanced French course (3rd year of French), but some of the descriptions are very confusing. I am not sure what the difference between Basismodul and Grundmodul are, but think Basismodul is more advanced than Grundmodul. The word Silberlaube also makes no sense to me. I found the courses from here: http://www.fu-berlin.de/vorlesungsverzeichnis/ss10/myvvq.php?dozent=&keyword=franz%C3%B6sisch&lvnummer=&fachbereich=99&kommentar=1&semester=SS10

Danke!

Hey! So I’m now looking at the website link and I would say the Grundmodule are particularly for language courses in the university’s language center (Sprachenzentrum) and the Basismodule are for special interest courses like linguistics or literature. “Silberlaube” doesn’t make much sense to me either. It literally translates to “silver alcove”. But the way I see it is that Silberlaube is just the name for either the building or the room in which the courses take place.

To make sure which course you have to take, I’d suggest you write a mail to one of the French consultants. :)
