marieclairefinger-deactivated20 asked: I've been living in Germany for the past 5 months now. I've really liked it so far, I just don't know what to say when I go to the baker or in a shop and people say something like 'Have a nice day' and I want to tell them 'same to you' in polite form. The only thing I can think of is 'du auch' but it doesn't sound too good!

Einen schönen Tag noch! / Haben Sie einen schönen Tag! (Have a nice day)

possible replies:

  • Danke, Ihnen auch! (polite) / Danke, Dir auch! (for friends)
  • Danke, gleichfalls!
  • Danke, das wünsche ich Ihnen auch! / … dir auch! (for friends)

I’d say the second one is both the most common and the easiest.
