anywherebutsweden asked: Hi! First of all I just want to say that I love Germanheit! You're doing a really good job.
And now to my question: I have been studying German for several years and it's really important to me to use every-day-words like you Germans do, so that I will blend in more when I speak. However I never quite understand how to use the word "krass". Can it both be positive and negative? Could you write some examples when and how I can use it.
Vielen Dank!
“krass” can be used both in a negative and positive way - that’s true. I use “krass” a lot if I want to express that something was really intense or extreme. Here are some examples:
Die Klausur war echt total krass. (in the sense of “difficult”)
Ich finde es total krass, dass x und y sich getrennt haben. (in the sense of “surprising”)
Was? Du hast 1000€ gewonnen? Krass! (in the sense of “awesome” or “cool”)
Das Konzert gestern war total krass! (in the sense of “great”)
“krass” can also be used in the sense of “gross” or “bad” / “horrible”.
e.g. Das Erdbeben war wirklich krass.
Es ist krass, wie sich die Welt in den letzten Jahren verändert hat.
You’ll often hear people adding a word like “total”, “voll” to stress the meaning even more.
I hope I could help you :)
