Since 1810 the Oktoberfest is the biggest and most popular people’s fair worldwide.
It takes place once per year in Munich, usually starts in late September and ends in early October.
The festival is held on the “Theresienwiese”, a big area in Munich. That’s why you might hear people call it “Wies’n” instead of Oktoberfest.
Die Wies’n is mostly known for it’s great variety of German – or let’s say Bavarian – food and drink, German girls in Dirndl dresses, souvenirs like beer mugs and gingerbread hearts and traditional Bavarian folk music.
Personally I’ve never been to the Wies’n although I only live 100 miles away. Maybe I’ll go this year ;)
And if you’d like to visit the Oktoberfest, here’s a link to the official website with tons of information.
