The verb “werden” Part 1
“werden” is a very important verb in the German language. It’s used in four different ways:
1. future tense (e.g. Ich werde morgen arbeiten. I’m going to work tomorrow.)
2. passive voice (e.g. Die Pizza wird gebacken. The Pizza is baked.)
3. to describe change (e.g. Ich werde nervös. I’m getting nervous)
4. to describe what you want to become (e.g. Ich werde Arzt. I’m going to become a doctor)
Let’s take a closer look at #3 and #4:
They’re pretty similar. Basically every kind of change is described with the verb “werden” in German. It translates to “become”, “get”, “grow” etc. :)
We’ll focus on #1 and #2 next time.
