der Apfelstrudel (Apfelstrudel) = apple strudel (apple strudels) der Apfel (Äpfel) = apple (apples) backen (irregular) = (to) bake
Yum! :) I love apple strudle! And it’s such a popular dish both in Austria and in Germany. Just a great dessert or snack in between. Here’s a great and very simple recipe - hope you like it!
You need:
4-7 apples (depending on the size), peeled, cored and sliced It doesn’t matter which ones, personally I prefer sour apples. 220g (1cup) brown sugar 160g (1cup) raisins (if you’re not a big fan of raisins you can use less of course) chopped nuts e.g. almonds, hazlenuts - but only if you like, it’s not a must ;) 1 sheet puff pastry 1 egg a bit of powdered sugar a bit of milk (about 60ml, 1/4 cup)
Mix the chopped / sliced apples with the brown sugar, the raisins and the nuts. Arrange the filling in the middle of the puff pastry sheet, which you’ve already put onto a baking sheet (with parchment paper). Now fold the pastry around the filling. You should seal the edges by watering your fingers and rubbing them together. To get a nice golden-brown dough color, whisk the milk and the egg together and brush it onto the strudel. Now bake it in the preheated oven (200°C / 400° F) for about 35 mins.
Ok! Decorate it with some powdered sugar. Serve the applestrudle hot/warm - best with either vanilla sauce, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or all three ;) Enjoy!
