The position of "nicht" in a #German sentence
The negation “nicht” is positioned depending on the sentence elements. Let me give you a few rules for that today:
Nicht always follows:
- the conjugated verb
(e.g. Paula raucht nicht. Paula doesn’t smoke.)
- specific adverbs of time
(e.g. Paula arbeitet heute nicht. Paula is not working today.)
Nicht precedes most other elements:
- adjectives
(e.g. Paula ist nicht lustig. Paula isn’t...

In regard to my last #German #phrases tweet, I need to add something.
You will read a lot:
Ich bin allergisch gegen….
If the preposition “auf” is used, you might see the following phrase:
Ich reagiere allergisch auf….
However, it wasn’t easy to find whether “Ich bin allergisch gegen or auf” is correct ;) Apparently “auf” is used a lot, too...

The construction verb + "(nicht) gern"
In the #German language, you can easily express that you like something by adding “gern” to the conjugated verb.
e.g.
Ich trinke gern Kaffee. I like to drink coffee.
Trinkst du gern Kaffee? Do you like to drink coffee?
You can also express that you don’t like something by adding “nicht gern”.
e.g.
Ich spiele nicht gern Fußball. I don’t like to play soccer.
Spielst du nicht gern Fußball?...
